Polar Educators International is an international organization dedicated to growing the global conversation into polar research, climate education, and cultural connections; our motto is “Connecting Polar Research, Education, and the Global Community”.  Our members live on every continent and are committed to inclusive and constructive dialogue.  We build connections between educators, indigenous peoples, researchers, and policy makers.  One important contribution is our biennial international conference, scheduled to take place in Hofn, Iceland from 11-15 April 2022.

The conference theme is “Stories in Ice:  Connect - Learn - Act”.  It is unique in that it is designed to include two days of field experiences introducing participants to Iceland’s unique geography, glaciers, and alternative energy solutions as well as two days of workshops.  Through this event, PEI seeks to strengthen Arctic capacity building, education and networking; connect polar education, research and the global community; and engage participants with Iceland’s glaciers.  Using both in-person and virtual platforms, participants will engage in the stories of the Arctic through Icelandic sagas, indigenous traditions, scientific presentations, and firsthand experiences.  The conference will build interaction and exchange between Icelandic educators and researchers and those of us who hale from different countries but have the shared goals of understanding Arctic culture, geology, ice, and the impacts of climate change thereupon.
